I awoke and gandered around to see my surroundings. Very little stood out to me. It was a calm field with some grass. It appeared to be summer telling by temperature, and was nighttime.
'Are you okay?' a girl asked me. She had her blonde hair in a pigtail, and the most beautiful blue eyes.
'Yep. Just let me stand up...there we go. Thanks for your concern, but I'm fine, I suppose.' I responded gently.
'All righty! Oh, uh, my name's Jourette Whittenfield, if you're wondering. I was here to study the sky when I noticed you. What's your name? Is your head feeling okay?'
'My head's fine. My name's Ephraim Iseru Etrusce, though everyone calls me by my middle name.' I responded, 'So I guess you might as well do so.'
'Iseru, hmm? Bizarre name...do you know where you are, might I ask?'
   'Yes, Staten Island.' I answered.
'Yep. So how did you get here, Iseru?' she wondered. It was like she was an EMT.
'Oh, how'd I get here? I think I was walking and just fell over, I haven't slept too well the last few days and am excessively tired, so I think maybe that's why...' I explained, very shaudily at best.
'You think, but you don't know...you know what year it is?'
'2015.' I answered. She angled her head to the side, and thought for a bit.
'Shall I take you to my house? Our family operates a little bed and breakfast that we can have you rest in, since it doesn't seem like you need medical service. I think you just need some sleep.' she said.
   'That would be appreciated, Jourette.'

'Ah, hello! Welcome to our Bed and Breakfast! Would you like to rest here for the night, sir?' the man asked.
'Dad, I'd like to request he stay here for awhile, he said he hasn't slept for awhile.' He glanced at me, then back at her, then back at me.
'Okay Jourette, that's fine. We've got a bed in the next room. Lead him to the bed, please.' he said.

'Iseru, might I ask a few more things about you?' wondered Jourette.
'Yeah, sure.' I asked, curious as to what she wanted.
'Okay, where do you come from?' she asked.
'Where do I come from? Jersey City. I was evicted from my home there because things just aren't going my way. So I packed up my things, took a ferry, and set out across Staten Island for a decent hotel, though why I didn't just go to a local hotel I have no clue...(Have to make her believe this...)'
'How old are you?' she next asked.
'Twenty-one. I live on my own because my parents are dead after a gas leak a couple years ago.' I answered.
'That's terrible...' This led to an awkward silence for a good minute. '...Uh, on that note, I think that's all the questions I have, Iseru. Thank you, and have a good night.'
I stayed awake until midnight, anticipating my call. When it came, I was lifted into the white plane I was used to. In front of me stood nothing, but I knew there was a spirit there.
'Master Cherubim Yureli. You wish to give me a task?' I asked.
'Yes, Iseru. The girl seems to believe your ploy, as she should. Stay as long as you can beside her, as she will be the cause of the next Abstersion.' my Master answered.
'Her...she seems to be anything but capable. How unfortunate. But so be it, Master. Do we have a punishment in mind?'
'No. However, do not take your eyes off of her. She may trigger the event at any time.'
'I see.' I answered, 'Is that all you required me to hear?'
'Yes. You are dismissed. Do not fail me, Iseru.'
   'I will not.'
On my departure, I spotted a blonde, blue-eyed archangel I was used to seeing around.
'Ah, Archangel Davran, well met.' However, he said nothing. He never did say much.

I awoke to Jourette standing at my bed with a cup of tea and an omelet.
'GOOD MORNING, Iseru! How did you sleep?'
'...Oh! You, uh, startled me a bit. Eh, okay. You make this for me?' I asked.
'Yep. An omelet and a cup of Chai, is that enough for you?' I took a gander at the omelet, it seemed very well made.
'It more than likely will be. Ah, who is that entering the room?' I saw a medium-size male with gold hair and glasses coming inside.
'Oh, that's my boyfriend, Dustin Jude. Dustin, this is Iseru. He'll be living here for a little while.' He looked very surprised that I was there.
'Huh, well hey...Iseru...' he said, very cautiously.
   'Hello.' I simply responded.
'...........Not much to talk, are you? No matter, I suppose.'
'I'm going back to sleep after I finish this meal.' I informed.
'Okay, gotcha. I'll leave you be. But are you sure you want to sleep? There's a documentary on The Movement, I've heard it's really interesting.'
'I'll pass, thanks...wait, The Movement of the Resurrection of Isolde? I've heard about what they preach, that 2038 will be the end of the world. It's pretty...eh, please, leave me be.'
As I fell asleep, I started to wonder if Jourette is truly capable of the next Abstersion. The Abstersion is a near-apocalyptic massacre released when humanity makes great progress and loses control of it. If they prevent its occurrence, technology only improves This is something against my Master's teachings, as further technology will only cause a permanent end. For this, it is our job to cross the multiverse and prevent this from occuring on alternate Earths, and try and curb the ensuing technology. But I dismissed it from my thoughts and continued to rest.
I woke up about an hour later and went upstairs to Mr. Whittenfield, who was manning the desk as usual.
'Ah, hello Iseru. How did you sleep?' he asked politely.
'Alright, I suppose. Could be better, could be worse. Where's Jourette, might I ask?'
'Oh, Jourette? She's out walking through the town with Dustin. She's twenty, after all. I feel she has the liberty to, you know, have some freedom before college begins.'
'Fair enough, Mr. Whittenfield. I'm gonna go walk around myself. If I run into her, I run into her. If I don't, I don't.' I said.

I may as well have been foreseeing things, as I ran into Jourette and Dustin while walking.
'Ah, Iseru. Fancy meeting you here. What's up?' asked Jourette, noticing me.
'Not much. I could immediately recognise you by those overalls...ah, you've Dustin with you. When did you two meet, might I ask?'
'Oh, me and Dustin? We met...when did we meet, Dustin?' she wondered out loud.
'We met eight years ago. But I recall you wanting to invent plenty of things, and sure enough, look at you, you're going to college to study robotics and computer engineering. I remember you wanted to invent a robot who could make whatever meal you asked for...' he recalled, a little smile on his face.
'I was twelve after all, sure as hell sounds like me. Well, after what I went through when I was ten, and considering how much of a whore my stepmother was, I was really, you know...I don't want to say bored, but that's all I've got. And later I wanted to make a robot who could tell without fail if someone was lying, more accurate than a polygraph, you know?'
'Damn,' I thought to myself, 'She really seems to love technology. Was Master right...no, there must be more...wait, what did she go through ten years ago...no matter...'
That night, at 0:00, I again went to the white plane.
   'Master.' I greeted him with.
'Hello, Iseru. I called you here to say this. I have decided on the punishment for the girl. You are to kill her.' he said.
   'Kill her...I see. Very unfortunate.'
'Iseru, are you having doubts?' my Master asked.
   'Yes, a few, unfortunately.'
'If you are, simply recall the pact I made with you.'
The pact I made with him...yes...it was five years ago. A carbon monoxide leak took my parents' lives, but it also took mine. But I did not want to die. I made a pact with the gatekeeper upon arrival to the afterlife and agreed to work for him in the world of the living in exchange for being able to keep living. When I was found by first responders, I had returned to the living world already, and for all intents and purposes, to everyone else, I was merely lucky to be alive.
'...Yes, Master. I will see it done. I will wait for the greatest opening, and slaughter her when I see the chance open.'

I awoke once again to Jourette bringing me my breakfast, always happy to present me with a massive smile.
'Morning, Iseru!' she said, almost singing.
   'Good morning, Jourette.' I answered.
'We have a virus going around the area, it seems. Do you feel like you're sick?'
   'I can't get sick, Jourette.' I responded.
   'What?'
'Oh, uh, I can't get sick because I'm one of those people who are highly resistant.' I quickly corrected.
'Ah, lucky. But nonetheless, I'm going to stay here for the day, it seems to be contagious, so I'm not going to risk catching it.' she said.
'Hmm...all right.' I decided that maybe, just maybe, this would be a decent time to make my move. Though summoning my lance, named Longinus, would probably be difficult to do with her within earshot. I eventually decided to wait. What I did do is follow her back to her room for more evidence of an impending Abstersion. I only caught a glimpse as she opened her door, but it was enough.
'So much technology...she's a modern day Bill Gates.' Gates himself had triggered an Abstersion in 2000, so I knew the threat of one was imminent.
I returned downstairs and summoned Longinus. I gandered at the lance I would use to end the life of Jourette Whittenfield.
'I've ended so many lives before, why do I feel this way with Jourette? Is it because she's just so innocent?...No, her innocence is a mask. It's a damned mask. I mustn't let it hold me back, it'll only cause me to become weak.' I said to myself. 'But when should I slay her? Hopefully soon, so nothing further can hold me back...' Then I recalled that on the side table I still had the breakfast she had brought me. 'Ah, what's this?' It looked like a bowl of oatmeal that had been left outside for nine days. No, make that ten.

The next day, I was once again awakened by Jourette.
'Good morning, Iseru! This might be a really bad time to ask, but my father's wondering if you're considering getting a job. You need some money to get a residence outside, he said.' she explained.
'Ah, a job...I have been considering getting one. If it happens, it'll probably just be as a waiter or maybe just stocking shelves at a convenience store. Something like that, maybe.'
'Something a little simple, huh...interesting.' As she turned around to leave, I gandered at her back. Time almost froze for me here. I wondered how I should fell her. Should I stab her clean through the back, so she won't know what hit her? But what if that doesn't hit any vitals, she'll bleed out. Or should I do it from the front, so I don't pity over killing someone in such an offensive manner? Should I make her fight? Most of those I've slain I've executed by stabbing them through the heart back-first, so they don't see it coming. Is that a merciful killing, or the way of a coward? I've always questioned that.
'Hmm? Iseru, are you okay? You're spacing out.' Jourette noted.
'Oh? Oh no, I'm fine.' Now my determination was even higher.

A few days later, I noticed Dustin walking through the streets.
'Ah, hey Iseru. Question for ya, do you know what your name means?' he asked. I could tell he also found my name strange.
'Yes, I do. First, my full name is Iseru Ephraim Etrusce, it is quite the name, I suppose. While I'm not quite sure what Iseru means, I've heard that it comes from Ys, a mysterious lost city off of France. We're not sure if it existed, but they say if Paris ever falls, Ys will rise again. And I suppose I am a bit of a mystery...though I'd consider myself more an enigma.'
'Hmm...interesting. Yeah, it sure as hell is quite the name.' he said.
'I'm gonna have to erase his memory after I kill Jourette. At least erase any trace that Jourette existed in his mind, since they're so close. I'll also have to do that with her father...oh, I have an idea.' I thought to myself. 'Dustin, if it's okay, can Jourette and I have a private chat?'
'Ask her, though it's fine by me.' I still couldn't get over how dense he was. It was then that I noticed something, an older woman walking by.
'Is that Jourette?' I thought to myself, '...No, that can't be. She's much older than Jourette...her sister maybe?' Before I could ask, she had disappeared around a corner.
